When we came across the open call to apply for Kolin Ryynänen Residence for Artists, we knew straight away this was the place for us. They were looking for projects that involved the community and this was exactly what we wanted to do. Residences are places where you can find the space to create, often in isolation. In many cases, they facilitate fruitful exchanges with other artists. Even if this always leads to exciting creations, we feel that it’s the contact with the people in their everyday environment that makes us thrive. This is how the idea of making this photography book came into our minds.
Our purpose was to make a portrait of Koli as it is now, with its people, its memories and its landscape. We didn’t want to limit ourselves to the role of mere observers but become part of the daily life of the village. We conceived the book as a time capsule where the Koli people could go back in the future and look at this summer frozen in time.

En Agosto de 2022 se nos concedió la oportunidad de visitar Koli como artistas residentes. Koli es un pueblo de 250 habitantes situado en el corazón de un parque natural en Karelia del norte, Finlandia. El objetivo de este libro de fotografía ha sido el hacer un retrato de Koli tal como es ahora, con sus gentes, sus recuerdos y sus paisajes. Durante un mes nos integramos en la vida diaria de sus habitantes, fotografiándolos y entrevistándolos. El impresionante paisaje de esta zona se ha convertido en un personaje más. Esperamos que este libro contribuya a preservar esta realidad para las generaciones futuras y dar a conocer la vida diaria y el paisaje de esta región única a todo el mundo. No nos gustaría adelantar demasiado, solo decir que lo primero que nos atrajo nada más llegar fue la inmensa belleza del paisaje, pero a medida que pasaban los días, fue el encanto de la gente lo que ganó nuestros corazones.
